My 1st Snow Day as an Adult
Feb. 4th, 2011 10:54 amSNOW DAY!
Not that we got that much but it doesn't take a lot in an area with no snow plows (why does that sound dirty?) to shut a town down. Stupid people (and they are idiiots) tried to drive to work on ice and snow covered roads this morning and per the EMS and City planners there are hundreds of wrecks because they didn't do what the news alerts said and stay home.
I called work at 7:00 fully expecting to get a message of "we're open, show up for work" (which is what happened 4 years ago when we had a major ice storm, and instead got the message 'we are closed for the day".
I suspsct (as it is not a hospital etc that I work at) that the liablitiy issue of someone getting in a wreck because my employer insisted that we were open when the city et al said 'stay home' and the TX Highway Dept said "Don't travel" was the reason. Yeah, I can imagine a lawsuit if someone got hurt because the employer said "Come in or whatever attendance policy disciplianary action will be taken if you don't" happening and justly.
Cause, sorry TX republicans, people's lives are more important than a business not making money for 1 freaking day.
Anyway, went back to bed and slept till 10, now up and cooking (and sitting by the fire):
Making:
Veggie minestrone
Baked Chicken Rice Pilaf
Baked Butterscotch Pudding
